It's a bit inaccurate to bundle up all MLMs with ponzi schemes. Although I do agree that some MLM companies have ponzi-like compensation plans where the vast majority of one's income comes from bonuses primarily derived from the fee other people pay to join the company or from the sale of ridiculously inflated products/services, it is not fair to put them ALL in the same category as ponzi schemes. Some of them offer good products and fair compensation plans, heck Warren Buffet bought 3 of those companies, I think Pampered chef is one of them. The key is to do your research thoroughly or becoming a premium member in communities like http://bizoppedia.com where you will be introduced to carefully researched business opportunities well before the majority of people hears about them.

I think most people here will vehemently answer NO to your question, that they do not participate in ponzi schemes (even if they do lol)

I read with curiousity Mercer's comments...Since I am one of the individuals referred to in the question posed by Ankur, I will be more than happy to respond to Mercer...Pardon the post if it comes on a little strong, but it gets tiring deal with people like Mercer who think they know more than really know. Normally I wouldn't waste my time trying to educate an idiot, but I was asked as a favor to respond, so here we go:

Ok, start by dissecting the claims.

(Actually, let's start by dissecting Mercer's brain...Another person who thinks they know what they are talking about when they don't! I will answer his comments in parenthesis..)

Claim
U.S. entrepreneurial legends running this thing and they have made $ 1.5 billion in their last two businesses.
Think about this. If their last two ventures were so successful then why are they running their successful ventures?

(We are stupid! The particular opportunity that Ankur is referring to is a 3 year old division of one of the other 2 ventures mentioned. Let me help you out here..The first company is 14 years old, has done over $ 1.3 billion in sales and is a recognized world leader in its field. We have a nice 25,000 square foot headquarters in Scottsdale..Why don't you hop in the beat up car you probably drive and come over and take a tour. You might learn something.)

A separate division was created 3 years ago to focus on several new products and this division now operates in 43 countries around the world, has been featured in several leading busines publications, and we have numerous leading doctors recommending its particular products. Hope this helps you out Mr. know it all. )

Investigate these people and their businesses. I would not be suprised if you found that the businesses were not that successful or that there might have been some legal problems with them.

(Please see my previous answer..obviously you have no clue! In fact, we have the #1 selling liquid mineral supplement to ever hit the market-traditional or otherwise. Furthermore, I have been featured in several national industry publications and my 2 partners and I are extremely well known in the business world in our particular field...)

Claim
The liquid supplement was featured in Esquire magazine.
How? Was it an article? Was it a paid ad? Big difference there. Was it in there at all? Can the person making the claim give information as to what month and year this feature happened.

(Yes, Mr. know it all, it was an article, not a paid for piece, written by one of the most well known MD's in the country who is not a spokesperson for the product, so before you retort with "the doctor is probably involved with the company or was paid to say it," and end up looking stupid, this would be good for you to know. Jumping to conclusions or making generalizations can make you look stupid and so far you've done a good of doing just that. The article was discussing the importance of supplementation and when it came to liquid supplements, ours was highlighted...Email if you would like so that I can give you the link to the article, not that we need to prove anything to you....)

Claim
Top distributors in the U.S. and 43 other countries earning up to $ 75,000 a month or more in our lucrative two team (binary) compensation plan that pays weekly! First of all, that is idiotic.

(No, Mercer, you are the idiot and probably a broke one at that! Usually people like you are! In fact, you probably spend hours in here answering people's questions to try and make yourself appear to be knowledgeable and impressive, all the while not earning a dime! Goes to show bright you really are!)

That means that there are people out there earning $ 900,000 a year selling this stuff and it is not a well known product.

(First, we are earning those types of incomes and second our product is extremely well known, which goes to show how much you really know...I just love guys like you that try to impress people with their "supposed knowledge" and lawyerly questioning skills, only to have it back fire on them!)

If there were people legitimately making this kind of money selling a product then there should be all kinds of articles about it. The product should be pretty famous in the US.

(We are well known within our industry and in 43 other countries around the world...You obviously do not understand the concept of network marketing and how network marketing companies operate-they usually are not advertising or publicity driven like a typical company-after all, word of mouth is free and distributors promote the product in a variety of ways on their end...One of our competitors is doing around $ 40 million a month or more and I have only seen one article on them in 3 years in the press-it was a story done by CNN...so you don't have to be famous to be successful or to be a best selling product...You obviously do not know very much about the network marketing industry or business in general.)

Claim
Over 2500 people have joined in the first few weeks!
This is a marketing ploy. Making it seem like everyone is wanting to get in on this. However, just because 2500 people have jumped in on this does not mean it is a good idea. Given the size of Delhi, it would not be too hard to find 2500 idiots. Also, there is no way to verify this number. They could have just made it up.

(Once again, open mouth, insert foot! We actually have over 4,000 now..it can be easily verified as everyone has a back office and see the names, email addresses, and phone numbers of people they have enrolled, as well as see the people below them..So, it cannot be made up! In addition, give people some credit for being as smart or smarter than you...If there were a bunch of fake names and phone numbers, the minute everyone started calling a few people below them and all they got were wrong phone numbers or people saying "I didn't sign up in that," everybody currently in would quit and there would be nobody left..Geez, you are about as bright as a burned out light bulb-not too bright!

By the way, I am sure that the people involved or those who live in Delhi appreciate you characterizing them as idiots. I would say the only idiot so far is you-it is always better to say nothing and let people think you are smart than to open your mouth and make yourself look stupid. My advice to you is the former...)

Top positions in my 2 teams are going fast
Cheap salesman tactic to make it seem like there is some urgency to jump on board. This makes a person anxious and that person will not be willing to investigate further because investigation takes time. Have you ever heard a used car salesman say that someone else was looking at that same car you are looking at just earlier that day?

(you obviously do not know anything about positions, especially in a binary. Besides, right now stupid, the position is FREE! No money is being taken! This is to enable people to go ahead and reserve a position during pre-launch so that they can do their investigation dummy, hopefully much better than how you do one! And our pre-launch has been a 2 month period-plenty of time to do any investigation..In fact, because we are well known, due diligence can be done in less than hour, if not sooner, so its not like you have to be Sherlock Holmes here...)

I have known many people who have tried MLMs (legal and otherwise). I have never known one to be successful at it.

(First, think Warrent Buffet is pretty successful? Do you even know who he is? LOL..Probably not..Well, he's around the 3rd wealthiest person and he owns 3 direct sales/network marketing companies! According to you, he must be stupid! How about Richard Branson? Know who that is? Probably not. Well, he's a billionaire-he owns the Virgin brand, as in Virgin records and Virgin airlines..He owns a direct sales/network marketing company...Gee, I am noticing some common denominators. We are all successful and you, Mercer, probably aren't! Maybe you need to find some new friends?

You obviously don't have very many successful friends. I know at least a few thousand..And just because your friends weren't successful doesn't invalidate the concept..Maybe your friends are as stupid as you are? Maybe they were lazy? Maybe they didn't know what they were doing?)

Well, that's all the time I am going to waste...My advice Mercer is to get a life instead of spending it in here...You obviously aren't going to convince me that network marketing doesn't work...and I'm probably not going to convince you that it does...What I find fascinating is why you have the need to waste your time replying to questions with your opinion when your opinion was never asked for? Ego? Yeah, that's got to be it...

After all, you're not getting paid for your answers and you probably spend hours every day on Yahoo just answering questions, trying to impress people who are less intelligent than you are...Sad...really sad....Maybe if you closed your mouth, opened your mind, listened, and associated and worked with some experienced, knoweldgeable and successful people, instead of your current crop of friends, you could actually be successful....Wish you luck in whatever you do, even if its spent spending hours every day answering questions for free...Just stick to something you know about it...You look stupid when you don't...

Hi!

First off, you CAN make $ $ in MLM, but its not as easy as this advertisement is making it sound.

It takes TONS of time, lots of ingenuity, and you have to be a salesperson. Figure on losing money for AT LEAST a year.

I have heard of Mangosteen, know a few people who swear by it. Have you tried it yet? DO NOT sign up for it without trying and loving the product. At the end of the day, you are not someone trying to get recruits, you are a salesman of Mangosteen.

As far as the entrepreneurial legend claim, it might be true. Most business people I know who are millionaires (that I personally KNOW, not that I've heard of) love being in business and starting new businesses, or moving business to new areas. Its in their blood.

Can you earn $ 900K a year in this? Yep. Will it happen to you? Probably not. It is only the top 1/2 of 1% that earn that much. But it is completely possible with the right marketing and time and commitment to the process. Most people join and expect a business to automatically jump up around them. It doesnt happen, they get bitter and then they leave.

Ground floor prelaunching in a new country is WONDERFUL! But dont buy the "top positions going fast" crap. Like they wouldn't take you! LOL

Bottom line: DO NOT sign up without trying the product. There are plenty of MLMs in India. Find one whos products you will love.

No, I don't believe in them. No one I've known who got involved in them ever got rich, and they only ended up disappointed after pestering other people to sign up. Chances are greater you'll annoy people than get a bunch signed up, which is just another reason pyramid schemes don't work. Some people go from one right to another, and it's like, didn't they learn their lesson last time? And no, social security is not a Ponzi scheme, it's a government program that will probably end up being an epic fail. But really, the republicans are engaging in the chain letter argument claiming social security is a giant chain letter, while the democrats are engaging in yet another chain lette argument claiming it is not. Both sides need to shut it already.

Almost every working stiff is involved in a Ponzi scheme - the Social Security program. But other than that, my answer is no.

You are correct in that Ponzi schemes only involve money and signing up people. Pyramid schemes involves something of value besides singing up people and money.

There is a video course online which is completely free that can show you how
to create a successful web business.

This particular method involves building a one page website which is used to
build an email list. This is a common internet marketing tactic which allows
you to email people who have opted in to your list.

You can use this method for any subject that you are interested in. If you are
passionate about music for instance, you could build an email list of people
who want to learn how to play a particular instrument. You could then sell
these people your own products or become an affiliate of someone else's
products which will offer you a commission.

In any case, there are 26 videos in this course and it is entirely free. You
don't even have to give your email address.

The link is below. I hope this helps.

Don..
I really hesitate to answer your question .. as you have said .. do not suggest anything mLm .. hmm
why?
Their are some very legit .. low cost .. real .. businesses .. where people are making very good money .. you say you have 12 hrs a day ... 5-6 days a week ...and this .. actually it affiliate marketing .. with a twist.. only cost $ 25 and that is recouped very easily ..

I suggest you look at this .. this isnt a sales page.. it is a review site of a very real business.. that makes money for people .. with the time you have .. if you followed Alan's direction I think you could do well..ok.. if your mind is closed .. sorrry ..good luck to you..

This is an excellent business - run from home - proven track record - real business not get rich quick scheme . 150k+ members - been around several years now .. I have friends making over $ 20k a month .. the site below is total non hype review of all aspects of company, team, benefits, comp, resources, training etc.. there are some good bonuses just for looking.

Yikes! I've tried MLM before. let me tell I will never go back to that again. As for

e-commerce, an education in that can cost you a pretty penny if you know what

I mean. Although I am pretty sure you have heard of affiliate marketing which is

the method of selling other peoples products. This is free and doesn't require you

to purchase merchandise just to register as for e-commerce well that requires an

even heavier chunk of change to start up. If you can mange to use a computer

with out to much trouble than all you really need is a business plan and some know

how. And I do understand that most people don't even know where to begin. But if

you are willing to put in the time and willing to learn some new skills than you must

be serious about creating a business for yourself. One that will bring you a good

income if you build it and work on it. But if you are serious about creating and running

a business for yourself in any niche or hobby that you are interested in, then check

out this site and sign up to receive your free info on how to get started.

I have to agree with a previous answer. This is probably not the best place to get information about how much it costs to start a MLM business. You would be better off starting to work on your actual business model. If you are at a loss as to how to start it, you might want to try contacting some people in the industry. A good place to start would be a place like Npros.com which has a list of the majority of MLM companies out there. Try to contact some people in a non competing industry and see if you can speak with them. You also will probably want to find a good attorney who deals with MLM companies specifically. You do not want just any lawyer, you need one who knows how this business operates.
